What is Altea?
Altea is a municipality located in the Mediterranean coast in the province of Alicante (Valencia Community), Spain. The Municipality of Altea focused on several areas such as: youth engagement, environment, urbanism, and equality. Currently, it is empowering the EU Cooperation Programs and the Local Development Department. One of the core business is the SWOT analysis to check the necessities of the citizens. As a result, Altea focuses on the access to fundamental rights, autonomy, and the participation of young people in the civic life. Altea has developed various initiatives involving youth work and training support for young citizens. Furthermore, the Municipality of Altea is one of the founding members of Douelage Program. The Douzelage is a town twinning association with one town from each European member states. The Douzelage movement received the European recognition in 1993 when it was honoured by the European Commission with the “Golden Stars of Twinning.”
Altea started this project as a response to the local youth demands. It plays an important role in the project, coordinating the definition of the project ideas, preparation of the application and the project implementation. While contributing to the common outputs of the project. Altea will involve young citizens as project participants, and share its best practices for youth involvement and application EU policies at local level. It will be the host and the organizer of the kick-off event of the project, underlying the project idea and objectives. Moreover, they will send delegations of young citizens to all the events. Altea will significantly contribute to get youngsters closer to EU and to stimulate their participation, encouraging them to take an active role in the civic and democratic life at local and European level. Finally, the municipality will play an important role for communication activities, coordinating the entire dissemination phase together with the project partners.
